New Entry Time \o/

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 1, 2008, 5:07 AM
Hey folks! :D

Seems like I haven't written in a while (do all my entries have the same intro? oO) So it's time for a new journal entry. I'll try my best to keep it short.

Well, as some of you know, I'm on a three week mid-year break, one week has already passed and I guess I'm enjoying it so far :D

I've REALLY been looking into art (specifically digital painting) lately, and I've sort of been looking into the history of illustration as well. I've looked into works of artists such as Frank Frazetta, Gerald Brom, Ryan Church, Craig Mullins, Ian McCaig, Steven Stahlberg, Daniel Conway, Anry Nemo, Puddnhead, Sparth and Kerem Beyit (to name a few), and I find observing, just simply observing their pieces to be SO much of a help. Very inspiring and beautiful work! :)

I can see improvement in my work, but as a great artist once said, you must never fall in love with your own work, else you will not improve. I've been buying and borrowing books on anatomy, colour, tone, form and composition and they've all been very helpful. But there's a LOT of room for improvement (have I said that before?). And I'm determined to get better! *rawr*

Anyway, not to bore you all with my chit-chat. I could go on forever.
Long story short, I'm doing great with my course. Seems like I've received HD's for all my classes for this semester O_o not sure how I managed that... w00t!

Looking forward to next semester. All the best.

Hey folks!

I haven't been able to write in a long time. I just haven't had the time lately t_t
School's started, we're in the second term now. Diploma of Multimedia (@Swinburne) isn't what I wished for unfortunately. I doubt there's a course that satisfies my desires anyway =P
I was really hoping for at least our Digital Animation and Illustration class to be good, but all we do there is either listen to the lecturer's basic Photoshop tools tutorials or surf the internet ;_;
I'll have to wait and see what the second semester is like, we're going to be doing animation :D

My other subjects are boring -_- We have a Moving Image class (video production basically), a class named "Online" where we do life drawing, a Research Project class (*shivers*), an Art and Multimedia Theory class (*shivers x10*) and a Guest Speaker program :)

I really wanted to do some digital illustration/painting in this course (the professional way) and get some good advice from lecturers, I'm self taught and I guess that's how it will continue..

I'm not sure what I'll be doing after this course. I really want to get into the BA - Digital Art course at RMIT. I really reallly want to know what it's like, because I really don't want to be wasting my time, I can just stay at home and develop myself. So if there's anyone out there who knows what the course is like, pretty please let me know (detailed :D).

I want to get into the gaming industry after university, hopefully I can develop some great skills and have a few really good artworks by then. When it comes to the gaming industry, I've realized that 2d artists aren't demanded much as they used to be (I don't even really know if there was demand for them in the first place). All gaming companies and teams are looking for 3d artists. I'm having the impression that if I wanted to work in the gaming field I'd definitely have to learn 3d art. Does anyone know anything regarding this? I would really like to hear opinions :)

I've recently discovered a bunch of really cool digital art books (Expose, Exotique and d'artiste). They're awesome, you should check it out! ;)

Well, besides that, I miss my parents (who are overseas, 22,000 kilometers away). All seems to be fine. I've just finished a painting (of myself :D), you can go and check that out :)

Take care folks! :wave:

Swinburne

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 14, 2008, 6:35 AM
Hi all :wave:

I haven't written a journal entry for quite a while now.

University will start on the 25th. I'll be going to Swinburne, yaayy \o/
I'll be doing Dip. of Multimedia (Visual Art). That sounds cool, huh? :D
I went to the Orientation Day, it was the first time I used public transport, and it wasn't as hectic as I thought it would be, lol. There was live music at the uni, t'was pretty cool ^^
I had to drop by MetShop, and it took me 30 minutes to find the damn place! ;_;
And other than the fact that I had to go all the way back to the city again after coming home it was all fun :) The city is a cool place.

I've finished DragonLance Legends, it was simply fantastic! Now I have nothing to read :/
I need a book ;_;
I'm thinking of reading The Golden Compass. If anyone has a good fantasy-based novel they can recommend, I'd appreciate it ^^

I've been drawing up a painting these past few days, I finished it today, I'll see if I can submit it tomorrow. I'm getting quite better =)
The folks at #DigitalMedia have been great help. Thanks you guys! :D
I'm going to be getting my Wacom tablet soon, can't wait! I've heard rumours of Intuos4. Anyone know anything about it? Should I wait for it instead of buying an Intuos3?
Oh and by the way, I think I need a laptop, my little brother keeps occupying the computer when I need it most ;_;

Anyway. That's all for now. Happy Valentines day you lot! :hug:
Take care,

- Cain
P.S. w00t! I hit 1000 page views! Thank you all!! ^_^

Farewell RMIT, for now..

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 28, 2007, 8:59 PM
Well, I got the letter from RMIT, and I didn't quite like it :/
(you wouldn't either if you got a "Code C" letter).

And, well, some other stuff happened (like receiving the letter on the 24th, which is the day preference changing closes, and I was 4 hours late in changing my preference and just lost my place in Swinburne), but it doesn't matter.

I'll be going to Victoria University now. ADOM (Games Development) is the course I'll be doing and I guess it's still fine.

And in two years time I'll try and get into the BA - Digital Art course in RMIT. I'll be trying real hard to develop myself until then.

All is good. :)

Other than that, I miss my parents who are overseas. I miss my classmates, teachers and school, which are all 20,000km away from me now. I need to practice a lot with drawing and sketching. I need to get better and better until I become as close to perfect as I can.

Oh, I'm enjoying the Dragonlance: Test of the Twins book, it's amazing! I absolutely recommend it!

RMIT Interview!

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 11, 2007, 6:05 PM
I just attended my Adv. Dip. of Multimedia interview \o/

The interview was in Building 57 Level 3 City Campus ^^

I met Nicole Lawther, the Acting Program Manager and Josiane Mueller the Program Administrator (?). Both of them were great people =)

The interview went fine in my opinion. I showed them my work, they didn't show any sign of impression (which I think was intentional, I guess they're not supposed to shout out "Oh woowwww!!"), but at the end when they asked if I had any questions the only thing I asked them was if they liked my work :P

Nicole said that I had quite a few pieces of work which were great :D so that's a good thing.

Unfortunately I didn't have any planning process work with me, would have been a plus if I did.

Well, they said they'll be sending out a letter which will be coded with either an A, B or C (A=ready to give an offer, B=reserved, C=didn't meet pre-selection requirements).

So I'm not sure if I'm accepted or not yet.

Why don't they just tell me if I'm accepted or not!! I can't wait a week for the letter!! I'll probably be dead by then!! Aaaaahhh!!!</shout-in-agony>

Overall, I think it went well :)

- Cain.
